Export the invoice as a PDF
Save the invoice from your invoicing software as an A4 PDF, with the first page in portrait. Without invoicing software, fill in the editor template "Rechnung (Standard)" (standard invoice) or "Rechnung (Kleinunternehmer)" (small business invoice).
Take the address from the address field
If the customer address is in the address field of the invoice, briefsenden reads it after upload. You confirm or correct the detected address before printing. If it is missing in the PDF, type it in or pick a contact from your address book.
Choose print and shipping type
Black and white or colour, single- or double-sided, as registered mail if you like: the cost preview shows the price of your invoice before you send.
Check the preview and send
The preview shows the invoice as it will be printed. Whatever arrives on a working day before 4 pm, we hand over to Deutsche Post the same day. After that the invoice shows as sent in your dashboard.

Mandatory invoice details – checklist
For your invoice to be recognised for tax purposes in Germany, it must contain certain mandatory details under § 14 UStG (German VAT Act).

How much does an invoice by post cost?
Each invoice uses coins according to page count and print type. What a coin costs depends on the size of your top-up.

For a single invoice the smallest top-up is enough: 100 coins for €1.80. The invoice uses 91 coins of it; the rest stays as balance and does not expire. Registered mail costs a surcharge; prices are on send registered mail online.

Invoice as a standard letter, reminder as registered mail
The invoice
For the invoice itself a standard letter is usually enough. It has no tracking: you see the status in the dashboard until handover to Deutsche Post; after that the invoice shows as sent.
The reminder
If your customer does not pay and you want to document the dispatch, send the reminder as Einschreiben Einwurf or with Rückschein. The dashboard then shows the tracking number you use to request the delivery receipt from Deutsche Post. The tracking status alone is not evidence of receipt.
Registered mail is only available within Germany and only printed single-sided.
